Reply:It's hard to find one-of-a-kind places in the outer suburbs of DC, but not impossible. Your best bet would be to check out the little town of Occoquan nearby. Another possibility may be ethnic restaurants in small shopping centers; Potomac Mills is pretty much all chain places.

Reply:There's the Polo Grill, they have excellent food, and I don't think it's a chain. They have a fabulous catfish dinner. Oh, and a creme brulee (chocolate?) for dessert that is To. Die. For!

There's Aburi Gardens, a bit further south. They have Ghanaian cuisine. It's pretty spicy. I always order one of the "American" choices, but the rest of my family likes the Red Red, Pepper Soup, etc. I do like the plantains...

Both places are out Route 1 (Richmond Hwy).
