What are the truthfully safe areas of BK for a 20 yr old Native Brooklyn girl to live alone?

I have been helping others find apartments and guiding them into which areas they should or shouldn't get apartments in. But now that it is time for me to actually take the plunge myself (by myself), i'm feeling pretty clueless. Other then the obvious areas (i'm from Brooklyn Heights) such as Carroll Gardens Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Bay Ridge, what are the truthfully safe neighborhoods that i'd at least feel decent about traveling at night back to my apartment if i lived there? I'm gonna be getting out of school in the city at around 10 pm. I know that some of our neighborhoods are better then others, but i'm really not sure how shady or safe they are because i've never actually lived there and everything is changing. I know how to get around, so i'm willing to live anywhere in bk if it is genuinely safe. Can anybody go down the list for me and give me the truth? Thanks in advance.

Midwood is pretty quiet and safe. Easily accessible by the Q too.
Reply:Sea Gate. It's west of Coney Island, protected by a gate, it's a private area.

Lived there for the first 10 years of my life, was a really good area with good people.

Also has it's own police department.
Reply:Lots of my friends live in Williamsburg, which they say is pretty safe at night and has an active nightlife, and its residents include many aspiring artists, musicians and writers. Plus it's just outside of Manhattan, across the bridge. Stick to areas near the L train (instead of the J train, which I personally hate -- I used to live in the Bushwick area), even better.
Reply:I have lived in bay ridge all my life. I just moved to Staten Island because I needed more room, (I have two children). I loved living in bay ridge. There is so much to do, restuarants, shopping, nightlife, not to mention a very safe place. I think you would be very happy there.
